The right address to sell online
Everything an online seller needs – a compliant address for your Impressum, accepted for marketplace and payment checks, that keeps your home address private.
Pass marketplace & payment checks
A real, verifiable business address for your seller accounts on Amazon, eBay and Etsy and payment providers like Stripe and PayPal.
Keep your home address private
Use a real business address on your Impressum instead of your home, so customers see a professional shopfront – not where you live.
One address that scales with you
Use the same address across every shop, marketplace and channel as you grow – with no setup fee, deposit or lease to lock you in.
Can I use a virtual office address in my online shop's Impressum?
Yes. Every commercial website and online shop in Germany must display an Impressum showing a serviceable business address where the operator can be contacted and legal documents served (§ 5 DDG, which replaced § 5 TMG in May 2024).
An Olea business address is a real, domestic street address – not a P.O. box – so it meets this requirement and reliably receives any official or legal post, while keeping your home address off the public internet.
Legal foundations: DDG § 5 (Impressum), GewO § 14 (Gewerbeanmeldung). The packaging register (LUCID / VerpackG) is a separate, product-side obligation – not an address matter.
| Key requirements | What Olea provides |
|---|---|
| A real domestic street address (no P.O. box) | A real office with workspace |
| A point of contact where you can be reached | Staffed during business hours |
| Reliable receipt of legal letters (Abmahnungen) | All mail, including legal notices, received and made available |
| One consistent address across shop, marketplaces and invoices | One verifiable address you can reuse everywhere |

Running an online shop from a virtual business address
Selling online in Germany? Here's the address you need for your Impressum, how it works for marketplace and payment verification, and what it does – and doesn't – cover.
Do online sellers need an Impressum – and what address can I use?
If you run a commercial online shop or sell on a marketplace, German law requires you to display an Impressum (provider identification) that is easy to find and always available (§ 5 DDG, the Digitale-Dienste-Gesetz, which replaced the Telemediengesetz on 14 May 2024). The required details are unchanged from the old § 5 TMG: your name and the address at which you are established, your contact details, and – for registered companies – your legal form, representatives and commercial-register and VAT details.
The address must be a real, serviceable address where you can be contacted and reached, not a P.O. box. You can use your Olea business address to meet this duty, which keeps your private home address off the public internet – where competitors and Abmahnung lawyers would otherwise find it.
Marketplace and payment verification
Marketplaces and payment providers run identity and address checks when you open or verify a seller account:
- Amazon, eBay and Etsy verify your business identity and address during onboarding, and the address you provide appears in your seller information. You can use your Olea address as your business address for these accounts.
- Payment providers like Stripe and PayPal ask for a business address during onboarding and KYC. Your Olea address works here too.
A practical caveat: some platforms (Amazon in particular) may also ask for a proof-of-address document in your name – such as a bank statement or utility bill – as part of verification. A business address alone doesn't replace that document where a platform requests one; our consent-to-use documentation can support your verification, but follow each platform's current requirements.
Gewerbeanmeldung and tax for online sellers
Selling goods online is normally a trade (Gewerbe), so you'll usually register it with your local trade office via a Gewerbeanmeldung (§ 14 GewO) and can use your Olea address as the business address on that registration (acceptance varies by municipality but works in most cases). You then register with the Finanzamt for your tax number (Steuernummer) and, where relevant, a VAT ID (USt-IdNr).
Keep one thing in mind: a business address is the address your business uses and is reachable at – it is not automatically your place of management (Ort der Geschäftsleitung) or a permanent establishment (Betriebsstätte) for tax. Those depend on where you actually run the business and are assessed by the Finanzamt. If your situation isn't clear-cut, check with your tax adviser.
What a business address does – and doesn't – cover
Your Olea address covers the address obligations of selling online: your Impressum, your marketplace and payment verification, your Gewerbeanmeldung and tax correspondence, and your everyday business mail. It does not cover product-side obligations that have nothing to do with where you're based – most notably the packaging register (LUCID / VerpackG), which requires sellers who put packaging into the German market to register with the Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister and license their packaging volumes. That's a separate registration you handle directly, regardless of your address.
Your path from address to selling
- Choose your address & location (≈5 minutes) – pick the city and location that becomes your business address.
- Checkout & compliance check (≈10–15 minutes) – complete our initial compliance check, a legal requirement under the German Anti-Money Laundering Act (GwG) for every business address, covering your ID and business details.
- Activate & get your documents – once you're activated, generate your consent-to-use documentation (Nutzungsüberlassungserklärung) from the Customer Portal to support registrations and verification.
- Put it to work – add the address to your Impressum, verify your marketplace and payment accounts, file your Gewerbeanmeldung and tax registration, and start receiving mail in your digital mailbox.
Questions about a business address for online sellers
Everything you need to know about using a business address for your online shop.
The best virtual office for an online seller is one that gives you a genuine serviceable address you can put on your Impressum, that works as your verifiable business address for marketplace and payment verification, and that reliably forwards your mail – including any legal letters. Every Olea location is a real office you can visit and book, with a digital mailbox included and consent-to-use documentation available from the Customer Portal, starting from €69/month.
Yes. Commercial websites and online shops must show an Impressum with a serviceable address where the operator can be contacted and legal documents served (§ 5 DDG, formerly § 5 TMG). An Olea address is a real domestic street address – not a P.O. box – so it meets this requirement, and you can keep your home address off the public internet while still reliably receiving official letters and Abmahnungen.
You can use your Olea address as the business address on your seller accounts, and it appears in your seller information. Marketplaces verify your identity and address during onboarding, and some – Amazon in particular – may also request a proof-of-address document (such as a bank statement or utility bill) in your name. A business address alone doesn't replace that document where it's requested; our consent-to-use documentation can support your verification, so follow each platform's current requirements.
Yes. Payment providers ask for a business address during onboarding and KYC, and you can use your Olea address. Any verification letters sent to the address are received and made available to you digitally, forwarded, or for pickup.
In most cases, yes – selling goods online is normally a trade (Gewerbe), which you register with your local Gewerbeamt (§ 14 GewO). You can use your Olea address as the business address on that registration; acceptance varies by municipality but works in most cases. You then register with the Finanzamt for your tax number and, where relevant, a VAT ID.
No. The packaging register is a product-side obligation: if you put packaging into the German market, you must register with the Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister (LUCID) and license your packaging volumes under the VerpackG. That's separate from your business address and isn't something an address provides – you handle it directly, whatever address you use.
Yes. That's one of the main reasons sellers use it. Your Olea address goes on your Impressum, your marketplace profiles and your invoices instead of your home address, so customers, competitors and Abmahnung lawyers see the office address – while all your mail still reaches you.
Our virtual offices start from €69/month, with the exact price depending on the location you choose. Every location includes the same complete service; the price simply reflects the address. Annual plans save 15%, with no setup fees or deposits.
No. You can complete the whole setup remotely – choose your location, check out, and submit your verification online, and we deliver all documents digitally. International sellers use this to get a credible German address for their Impressum and marketplace accounts without relocating.
We start accepting mail addressed to you once your account is fully activated. After that, incoming mail is received at your location and made available in your digital mailbox (scanned, typically within 5–7 days), forwarded by post (from €10/month + postage), or held for in-person collection. Options vary by location.
