Remote business requirements
Can a remote team use Olea as its German business address?
Yes – a remote or distributed team can use an Olea location as its permanent German business address, from the inländische Geschäftsanschrift of a GmbH or UG to the serviceable address in an Impressum.
Choose an available location and complete Olea’s onboarding and verification review. Once approved, use the address accurately in the registrations and public information relevant to your business, and manage eligible letters through the mail option selected for that location.
Olea provides the address, the supporting address documentation and the mail service. Notaries, authorities, banks and platforms apply their own rules and keep their own decisions, and workspace is subject to operator confirmation. Where a company is managed, taxed or has a Betriebsstätte depends on where people actually work and where management decisions are made.

Running a remote team with a virtual office
See how one German address fits a business with no permanent office, how to organise mail across a distributed team and which tax and cross-border questions the address does not answer.
What a remote team means here
A remote team is a business whose people do not work together from one permanent staffed office. That covers a remote-first company whose people work from home, a distributed team spread across several cities, a hybrid business that meets occasionally and directors who manage a German business while travelling or living elsewhere.
The shared problem is practical rather than legal. The business still needs a stable public and correspondence address even though its people and working locations change. Olea provides that fixed address and the mail infrastructure behind it. It does not define where the business is actually managed or where each person works.
Why a business with no office still needs a fixed address
A company or trader may need a German address for several different reasons, and which of them apply depends on the legal form and the activity:
- A GmbH or UG states an inländische Geschäftsanschrift for the Handelsregister under § 8 Abs. 4 GmbHG.
- A commercial website generally displays a serviceable address in its Impressum under § 5 DDG.
- A business that requires a Gewerbeanmeldung gives the relevant business or administrative address under § 14 GewO, subject to the local authority and the real operating setup.
- The Finanzamt, banks, payment providers, marketplaces, customers and suppliers need a stable correspondence or verification address.
Not every remote team has the same legal form or the same registrations. One address can be used across the records for which it is appropriate, but it does not automatically satisfy every third party and it does not replace a genuine operating site such as a shop, warehouse or workshop where the activity requires one.
What the Olea address provides
The location you select provides a real German street address at a staffed partner office, receipt of mail in the approved name after activation and the supporting address documentation in the shared product model. The business can then use that address consistently across the records for which it is appropriate.
Consistency is worth more to a distributed team than to anyone else, because nobody sits in one place to notice a record going out of date. Choose an internal owner for the address, keep a list of the services and authorities that hold it, and update those records when the company name, directors, activity or address changes.
Organising mail when nobody works at the address
Digital Mailbox is available at every Olea location and is the default remote-friendly way to make eligible letters available online. The allowances, timing, storage, forwarding and registered-mail rules are set out on the mail-handling section and feature page rather than repeated here, so there is one place to read them and one place to change them.
A remote team should still define an operating routine around them:
- 1Assign a responsible person for new-mail notifications.
- 2Route tax, legal, banking and supplier correspondence to the right internal owner.
- 3Set an escalation rule for urgent or official items.
- 4Decide which originals must be archived or forwarded.
- 5Keep authorised names and contact details current with Olea.
Digital delivery improves access to a letter. It does not remove a deadline contained in it, and reading and acting on correspondence remains the customer’s responsibility.
Business address, management and tax are different questions
The Olea address is the business’s registered or correspondence address. It is not automatically its Ort der Geschäftsleitung, its Betriebsstätte or its tax residence, and the three are assessed separately:
- Ort der Geschäftsleitung generally depends on where ordinary senior-management decisions are actually made.
- Betriebsstätte generally depends on a fixed place and the real activity, access and control connected with it.
- Tax residence and cross-border presence can be affected by where directors manage the business and where employees or contractors work.
Occasional use of bookable workspace and the address service do not by themselves settle any of these. The reverse also holds: using the address does not prevent a taxable presence arising elsewhere from real management, people or activity. A remote team operating across countries should take advice based on its actual arrangements rather than on the address label.
Working across borders
A German address does not replace analysis of the countries where directors and team members work. Depending on the facts, remote work can create corporate-tax, payroll, social-security, employment, immigration, data-protection or employee permanent-establishment obligations outside or inside Germany.
The facts worth documenting are where directors make decisions, where people habitually work, what authority employees have, where contracts are negotiated and what premises the business can use. Olea does not assess or change any of them through the address service, and this page does not give a jurisdiction-specific answer to any of them.
Workspace when people meet
Remote does not mean people never meet. Active Olea customers can request meeting rooms, coworking desks or private offices at participating locations for client meetings, interviews, onboarding, planning sessions or a stretch of focused work.
Workspace usage is separate from the Virtual Office subscription. Olea checks the request with the operator, confirms the available option and its price, and the booking is confirmed once the customer accepts and pays. It is not included free use, it is not real-time inventory and availability is not guaranteed.
Setting up and keeping the address current
Setup runs through the shared online journey: choose an address, complete the applicable onboarding and verification review, then start using the address once Olea confirms activation. An existing business moving to an Olea address should update every relevant record rather than changing only the website or a single register.
A remote team should review the setup when:
- the company name, legal form, directors or beneficial owners change;
- a new trading name or authorised mail recipient is needed;
- the team starts using a permanent operational site;
- management moves to another country;
- the business hires people in a new jurisdiction; or
- the business changes its Olea address.
Each of these can affect both Olea’s customer records and the business’s own legal, tax or commercial registrations, and the two are updated separately.
A simpler way to establish your business in Germany
Getting a business address is one of the first steps in starting or expanding in Germany. Yet locations are hard to compare, pricing is often unclear and setup still relies on calls, enquiries and paperwork.
We started Olea to make it simpler. Choose an address at a hand-picked office, see the price upfront and complete setup online.
Then manage your mail and book workspace when you need it – without paying for an office you don't use.
Real offices, more choice
Choose from staffed offices and coworking spaces across Germany rather than being limited to one operator or one mailroom.
Built around German business requirements
Use your address for company registration, tax correspondence, your Impressum and everyday business, with the supporting address documentation provided.
Bought and managed online
Compare locations and prices, complete verification and manage your address without a viewing, sales call or permanent office contract.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. An Olea location is a real German street address at a staffed partner office, and a remote company can use it as the stable business and correspondence address appropriate to its legal form and activity. Olea provides the address, the supporting address documentation and the mail service. The relevant authority or provider remains responsible for any external decision.
Not generally. A business may need a real, serviceable address, and it may need to register any genuine operating sites it has, but that is not the same as having to maintain a permanent office lease. Whether a particular setup works depends on the legal form, the activity and the local authority’s requirements.
Digital Mailbox is available at every Olea location. Eligible letters are received in the approved name and made available through the shared scanning workflow, typically within 5–7 days of receipt, and 5 letter-content scans per month are included. Original-mail forwarding, pickup and registered-mail handling follow the options and rules shown for the location you select.
The item follows the approved mail workflow for your selected option. When eligible registered mail reaches a workspace, the workspace emails Olea and Olea emails you. Eligible registered items can be forwarded one-off for the published forwarding fee plus postage, whichever primary mail option you chose. Monitoring notifications and acting before any deadline remains your responsibility.
No. A business address does not by itself determine a company’s Ort der Geschäftsleitung, Betriebsstätte or tax residence. Those outcomes depend on where management decisions, people, premises and business activity actually are. A cross-border remote team should obtain advice based on its real working arrangements.
The address purchase and Olea onboarding are completed online, but the consequences of managing a German company from another country are fact-dependent. Where management sits can affect corporate tax residence, permanent-establishment analysis and other obligations. Olea provides the address service and does not determine a company’s management or tax position.
The Olea address does not prevent remote work, but it does not resolve the legal consequences either. Where employees work can affect payroll, social security, employment law, immigration, data protection and permanent-establishment risk. Review each working arrangement with advisers qualified in the countries concerned.
Active Olea Virtual Office customers can request meeting rooms, coworking desks or private offices at participating locations. Usage is booked and paid for separately from the subscription. Olea checks availability and price with the operator, and the booking is confirmed only after you accept and pay.
The address can be used across the business wherever it is appropriate: as the inländische Geschäftsanschrift of a GmbH or UG, as a Finanzamt correspondence address and as the serviceable address in an Impressum, for example. The Gewerbeamt, banks and platforms apply their own rules, and the address does not replace a genuine operational site where the activity requires one.
The current available-network price is shown dynamically on this page and varies by address. Every location includes the same core Virtual Office service: a legal business address, Digital Mailbox and access to request workspace. Paid recurring mail options, workspace usage and other add-ons are separate. Annual billing saves 15%, with the annual total billed upfront.
Choose your address and complete the online onboarding flow. Use the address once Olea has completed the applicable review and confirmed activation. The three steps are set out in the setup section on this page.
